Choosing a Coach
There are numerous choices when deciding which company to use to satisfy your coaching needs. The industry is currently unregulated but professional coaches sign up to a code of conduct and adhere to ethical guidelines.
Management Tomorrow coaches are affiliated to either the International Coaching Federation, the European Coaching & Mentoring Council or the Coaching Association. When making your choice we recommend you consider the following points.Know what you want to achieve: A good coach will always start with this question and will help you explore your needs and aspirations. Look for someone who is focused on your successful outcome. Demand experience, qualifications & code of conduct: Coaches are the same as any other professional – experience shows. Consider how much business experience you expect. Qualifications will demonstrate the coach’s skill level and a code of conduct and an ethical approach will indicate a company who are committed to maintaining standards. Demand choice: The relationship you have with a coach is a deeply personal one and can be successful only if both parties are 100% comfortable so ensure you are able to choose the coach you want.Look for quality assurance: Companies who care about quality and consistency will have a process for checking quality and client satisfaction throughout the relationship. Trust your intuition: A coaching relationship is just human interaction. We make the best choices when we trust our gut feel – does it feel right? If not, walk away. |
